“Dear Mr. Shipley,
Yesterday, December 28, 2015, your technician came to our home and installed a new primary sump pump and basepump backup system. He arrived earlier than expected, which was wonderful, as we had recently experienced a flooded basement due to our failed sump pump, and were very worried about a recurrence. He was friendly, courteous, and very professional and explained all of the options available to us. He answered all of our questions, many of which related to other plumbing issues not connected to the basement situation. He made clear he would gladly answer any other questions that occurred to us. He worked surprisingly quickly, given the amount of work to be done. When I was asked to come down to the basement to inspect the work, I was amazed at how clean, tight, and professional it looked. I know that one does not often think of plumbing as beautiful, but his was BEAUTIFUL work, if ever I’ve seen it! It was truly pristine! “Bryan, our “Plumber,” just left our house and with the memories fresh in my mind I wanted to jot down my impressions. Our need for a plumber was serious. Yesterday, Christmas night, just before we were about to leave for dinner at a friend’s house, my wife went down to the Utility Room in our Basement. As she walked down the stairs an immediate sense of fear hit her. Our Basement was beginning to flood with water. Turns out our Hot Water Heater just broke. For the next several hours, after turning off the main water switch to the house, we did everything possible to clear the water using a Wet/Dry Vac.

With the water under control, our job was now to find a good plumber who would come out first thing in the morning. My wife called her cousin in Baltimore who owns a plumbing business (Bruce Solomon Plumbing). Bruce highly recommended Shipley Plumbing.

His recommendation was spot on. Shipley Plumbing sent Bryan to our home. He arrived on time, was clean cut, very courteous and professional, sympathetic to the problems we faced and highly competent. After examining the Hot Water Heater and several other projects we had for him, and agreeing on costs, he got down to work. He and a colleague by the name of Hector worked their tails off for the next six or seven hours to accomplish the numerous tasks. We had more work done than we initially thought but when you find a reliable tradesman, you have him do what is necessary.

Bryan and Hector methodically went through each and every project. Along the way they kept us informed of what was happening and when water service would be restored to the house. When everything was finished, Bryan walked us through the work which had been done and answered any questions we might have. They also cleaned up the area they worked leaving it cleaner than it was when they started. This is a mark of a dedicated tradesman and a company that really cares about making a good impression and meeting the needs of their customers. These attributes are not what you typically find. Based on this and other instances in which Bryan/Hector and Shipley performed, I gave them Five Stars. I’m a tough cookie and have high standards. Shipley Plumbing met those standards with a smile on. If you need a great plumber (just hopefully not one on a holiday weekend and in an emergency) choose Shipley Plumbing. If you need a good plumber in Baltimore call cousin Bruce Solomon Plumbing. They have the same skilled tradesman and a equally fine commitment to customer service.”

“1) Shipley really stands behind quality of their work. Building needed a gas pilot replacement on a very old furnace with hard to find parts. The first replacement part failed within one week. The owner himself got involved and ensured timely turnaround and a second service call was completed to our satisfaction. No charge for second visit.

2) Originally hired a major company with initials CM to do air conditioning maintenance. UV light failure diagnosis resulted in recommendation to replace the entire UV light system for $1600. Called Shipley and a technician came out who really knows diagnostics: analysis — a fixture fuse box failure. Shipley ordered the part, did installation — a fraction of the cost. These guys are not about up-selling but providing quality service for a reasonable price. They are technically very competent in their respective areas of specialization — so the HVAC chap probably is not going to be dealing with a drain clearance issue (my only disappointment). That is hardly a downside when the technicians are rock solid.

3) Called Shipley to ask about doing a special vent job for a long feed to a dryer. The firm was honest about its capabilities here and offered to refer me to another firm that specialized in these difficult installations. In summary, Shipley has a great deal of integrity, does excellent work and stands behind its services. I just hope that the firm does not become too busy — resulting in service delays.”

“We’ve had a under-floor radiant heat system in part of the house for about six years, and it’s never worked very well. During that cold weather we had a couple of weeks ago, I started looking for someone new to service it. Shipley was the first to answer my call – I actually got to speak to Ron Shipley myself. After answering several of my questions about how the system works – something that’s been hard to get from any other service company – Ron said he would send someone out. It was just a couple of days later that Billy and Sergey arrived. Although it cost a little bit more than I have paid in the past, the system seems to work well for the first time. It heated up quickly and evenly, and the pump isn’t running constantly. Billy said they would think about how to integrate a self-bleeding system, which should help as well. Love them.

I want to express my appreciation for the quick response and outstanding technical service I received last week when I was faced with a plumbing problem – a stopped up toilet. I was desperate to get this fixed ASAP. I’m sure every call you receive is considered an “emergency” but my very pregnant granddaughter was visiting and an operational toilet was essential. Calls to other plumbing companies either went unanswered, had telephone answering messages requesting customers leave their name, number etc., or would not be able to respond for several days.

Desperate, I googled and – bingo “Shipley Plumbing” appeared. The website was easy to navigate and provided useful contact information. A pleasant, real live person answered the phone…and adjusted work schedules in order to provide service that morning – which actually happened!

I want to acknowledge the outstanding service provided by Milton, the plumbing technician. He was pleasant, punctual, and professional. Not only did Milton fix the problem, he thoroughly cleaned the work area – and provided a mini tutorial on how to avoid this problem in the future. Milton is an excellent representative for your company.

Yesterday morning was my first service call with Shipley Plumbing…last night, I was one satisfied customer, and my many thanks go out to your technician, Milton Guerrero.

Mr. Guerrero was a true professional. He listened to my concerns, walked all 4 floors of my house looking at my plumbing, laughed with me at my lack of knowledge of some things….explained how other things work, and really made me feel like he cared about the status of the issues in my house. He pointed out the problems that I didn’t know about; he priced up all of the solutions; he helped prioritize a couple of things that could wait and others that couldn’t. He pointed out a couple simple maintenance issues that shouldn’t wait (like draining the sediment out of the water heater) – explained why they were necessary – and then volunteered to do them at no additional charge. In the process, he explained your monthly service plan, gently pointed out the advantages, and got me a brochure to review the service plan while he worked. I am proud to announce that I am now a member of the service plan club!

At no time did I feel pressured, but I felt encouraged by his explanations of how things work and why certain things needed doing. Milton was considerate of keeping the work areas clean, he double checked everything was working on before he left, and he made me feel like I was an important customer to him. He didn’t even get lunch; he just kept working and never stopped!

I work in the Finance section of a construction company – Siemens Industry. I know first-hand that customers are always quick to point out the short-comings of a service call or of a technician; it is rare that they take the time to tell you what went right…..I expressed my feelings to Tony on the telephone this morning, and he suggested that I contact you directly.
