For many people, showering is a personal time to relax and either unwind from the busy day behind them or prepare for a hectic day to come. While showering should be a rejuvenating experience, there are a number of bad shower-habits that many of us are guilty of:
Bad Habit #1 – Waiting too long to clean the shower.
Let’s face it – cleaning the shower and bathtub is not a fun task, but it is a necessary one. Your shower and bathtub can easily become a home to mold, fungi and even staph bacteria. Do yourself (and your family!) a favor and take some time to regularly clean the place that you go to in order to get clean yourself!

Bad Habit #2: Taking a VERY long shower.
A long hot shower sounds like the perfect answer to a cold winter day, but showering is a major waste of water. The average American shower lasts about 8 minutes and uses 17 gallons of water. Considering that many of us occasionally shower for more than double that average, the water waste per shower can be significant. By cutting back on shower times we can save water and the energy used to heat it!
Bad Habit #3: Skipping out on moisturizing.
A long shower can strip your skin of moisture, leaving skin that is already dried out from the winter air in even worse condition. Many of us don’t take the time to moisturize post-shower, and if we do we wait too long. Moisturizer should be applied to the face and body within 3 minutes of showering in order to get the best results.
Bad Habit #4: Let anything and everything flow right down the shower drain.
Hair, small pieces of soap, dirt and debris often find their way into our shower drain. Little amounts of each may not seem like a big deal, but over time these minor elements can cause a major drain blockage. The simple solution? A drain guard! They are extremely inexpensive and can be found at most hardware stores. (the guard on the right is less than $5 at Lowes!). Have a slow-to-clear drain? Bad Habit #5: Ignoring that leak in the shower.
We say it time and again – small leaks amount to a big loss! A shower that is leaking 10 drips per minute will waste 500 gallons of water per year! Fix a leak at the first sign of a drip to save water and money! Leaking shower? Use the coupon below to stop that leak & save!
